The wind does not whisper, it howls. Cascades of rain threaten to drown the world over night. Your only focus is to escape the storm.

You find a derelict building. A sanctuary that sways in the gale. Exhausted, you fling the door open, clamber inside and a gust of wind slams the door shut behind you.

Grateful to be out of the ever widening skies, you are told about an old tale used to keep children from wrong doings.

“Deep in the outskirts of Sheffield sits a dark forest, deep in the forest lies a dilapidated child’s home. Locals claim that many moons ago it’s Headmaster used to pay for his own immortality with the souls of the children. This was until the longest and darkest storm ever recorded struck; lasting over 12 hours and finishing at exactly midnight. Locals claimed, that evening, they could hear children’s screams whirl in the winds, that they had been visited by the children in their nightmares. And that their souls were bound to hell and that they would be back.”

With that final word, the clock strikes 12:00am and you hear the front door bolt behind you. The witching hour has began.

It’s just a story, it’s just a story, a fictitious story, a mere tale used to keep children from wrong doings. Nothing to be afraid of. You told yourself.

I went and did run with my partner not quite knowing what to expect other than it was a scary room. It was well scary! And the mechanics of it were nothing like I have ever seen before in an escape room. The puzzles were fairly easy to do but the scare factor made them hard to complete fast enough. It was an amazing experience over all and me managed to escape in the end!!

My kids had been pestering me for weeks about doing a scary escape room, to which I obviously wasn’t sure about, so I rang up and asked if there was anything scary but suitable for a family with a 12 and a 14 year old. We were recommended Run so I caved and booked in. When we arrived at the venue, we were pleasantly surprised with the layout, with a lovely bar area with lots of games to play. When we went into our game, it was incredible, I won’t spoil anything, but it’s amazing how some things work. One part in particular gave me chills every time it happened. The kids loved it as well, it wasn’t too difficult for them and we could all get involved with the puzzles. We got out with 5 minutes to spare too! Afterwards we ordered a couple of pizzas which were great value and tasted amazing. The staff were brilliant, they couldn’t do enough to help, and you could tell they were having a fun time being there, which was wonderful to see. Definitely will be back again.

My husband bought a Virgin Experience for my birthday which included a game at The Great Escape Game, a pizza to share and a couple of cocktails. We chose to play Run and it was splendid! The effects and the way the game was built was amazing, I’ve no idea how they made it so good! The pizza was big enough to fill us both up and was yummy! The cocktails were marvellous too. The staff are jack of all trades, as our Games Master also made our food and cocktails, while being a wonderful host and answered any and all questions we had, both about the game and the company. We will most certainly be returning!
